Ever have the dream of owning a log home? We did. Our home in Silver Springs, Nevada is currently for sale. It was a labor of love and those who enter say "this isn't a house, it's a home". We are ready to begin a new dream. If your wish is to live the dream of owning a log home without having to go through the work of building one, here is your chance. And because of today's terrific market opportunity, you won't find a sweeter deal.
The home I am talking about is located in Silver Springs, Nevada; about 40 minutes southeast of Reno. You can reach Carson City in roughly the same amount of time. Silver Springs is a quiet, rural community with good schools, local eateries and grocery, a medical clinic and a private airport. It is a favored place of new families or retirees who desire to live just far enough away from the city to live in a country setting, but with easy access to shopping and entertainment.
Silver Springs is a crossroads community. On a map, check out where Highway 50 intersects with Highway 95A. This area is known for it's many recreational opportunities. At Lake Lahontan, a thirty mile shoreline State Park lake with sandy beaches, there are great places to camp and good fishing. The log home is about 3 miles from the nearest boat ramp.
Silver Springs also boasts Ft. Churchill, a civil war encampment run by Nevada State Parks. It contains the remains of an old fort, camping facilities and day use areas along the Carson River. On any given day, you can go down to the river, have a picnic, and be the only ones there.
There is much opportunity for off road adventures in and around Silver Springs too! Many folks own ATVs of one kind or another and spend hours touring the area hills, rock hunting, or exploring numerous petroglyphs in the area.
So what about this wonderful log home? It sits on a fully landscaped .92 acre parcel (100x400) in a quiet neighborhood. Our family has lived on this property since 1968.
When you approach the house, the front yard is a picturesque oasis. There is a circular front lawn, with custom curbs surrounded by river rock and several different types of trees. It is a welcoming view from the 12 x 24 sunroom.
The home is 2400 square feet with a big country kitchen, dining, living, family room and bath on the main floor. The kitchen has beautiful knotty pine cabinets, tile counter and floor. A counter bar separates the kitchen and dining room and the open floor plan includes the living room. Through a six foot opening in the logs, you'll see a 24 x 20 family room with built in cabinets along one entire wall.
Upstairs has been made into two bedrooms and there is a sitting room outside the master which we use for an office. It would easily make a wonderful nursery or sewing room. The second bedroom is large enough (11x22) to be made into two rooms with a little modification. It is important to know that because the log walls support the roof structure, any of the interior walls can be moved or removed. There is a full bathroom upstairs with a perfect garden sized tub for soaking.
Almost all of the interior walls are wood with wood accents. The home is truly a country cabin at heart, complete with wood stove and log mantel. The wood stove is centrally located and if you fancy wood heat, you can maintain minimum heating expenses. For comfort though, there is a forced air heating system which also provides for air conditioning in the summer months.
The backyard is completely enclosed with a six foot wooden privacy fence. There are several seating areas of exposed aggregate concrete, a covered porch, enough grass for the kids and dogs to romp, a wonderful babbling pond and an above-ground swimming pool.
Just to the other side of the backyard, you will find the two car insulated and sheet rocked garage, complete with guest room and third full bath. The guest room opens into the backyard with a sliding glass door.
Beyond the garage and parking area is a basketball half-court and another larger expanse of lawn for play, then comes the fully fenced garden area, with sectioned beds for square foot gardening and four nice fruit trees. All of the landscaping is easily watered with a timed watering system.
This log home truly is "home". It is looking for someone to honor and cherish it and fill it with love as we did. I hope you enjoyed your tour of our pride and joy and that you can appreciate that this is not a "house for sale", but a home waiting for a new loving family.
